Circular Footbridge at Yee Wo Street
This pedestrian bridge, built in 1963, is located in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, on the Yee Wo Street tram tracks, with a circumference of about 300 meters, connecting Causeway Road to the east, Hennessy Road to the west, Leighton Road and Sugar Street. The reason why the bridge adopts a ring-shaped structure is not only because of the ingenuity of architectural design but also because the appearance is conspicuous enough to attract more people to use it.
The circular and curved visual effect of the circular flyover on "Yee Wo Street" has attracted many films from Hong Kong to be shot here. When the "Young and Dangerous" movie series was popular in Hong Kong in the 1990s
In addition to Hong Kong films, the unique shape of the bridge has attracted Hollywood (Hollywood) filmmakers. The lawless zone described in the sci-fi movie "Ghost in the Shell" gathers a group of young people who resist the mechanization of their bodies; the most conspicuous building in the zone is the circular overpass on Yee Wo Street, the place where the giant robot fights at the end of the movie.
This is an image I took for myself during a feature photo shoot for a client in 2021, and it's the last time I shot a Hong Kong street scene before I left Hong Kong to move to the UK.
