Kansu Street Neon Light

Kansu Street (Chinese: 甘肅街 ) is located in Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon Peninsula, Hong Kong, east to the junction of Nathan Road and Gascoigne Road and west to the intersection of Ferry Street and Yan Cheung Road. It belongs to the earliest batch of streets opened in Yau Ma Tei.

When the development of Yau Ma Tei was planned in the 1870s and 1880s, reclamation was carried out from the original coast to fill up the swampy bay in this area. Kansu Street is the northernmost street among them.
Dazzling neon lights have been lighting up Hong Kong at night since the 1920s. From the 1960s to the 1970s became the symbol of the Pearl of the Orient. The neon sign has attracted many tourists to take photos and check in for many years. It has stood on Gansu Street for nearly half a century; foreign travel websites once rated it as one of the top five places in Hong Kong. The "Koon Nam Wah Bridal 冠南華", one of the characteristic neon lights, is a long-established shop for hanging Chinese Wedding gowns. The signboard was dismantled on August 17, 2022, due to a violation of the "Illegal Signboard Inspection Program" revised by the Buildings Department in 2011. The two big neon signboards in front of us. Many years of glorious years suddenly came to an end last night, which made many people feel sorry. Substandard neon lights in the same district will be demolished one by one, and the lights will no longer shine in the bustling city.
