 Kai Tak Airport 1997,Hong Kong

Limited Edition Photography Print

Hong Kong Kai Tak International Airport, located in Kai Tak, Kowloon District, Kowloon, was opened on January 25, 1925, and has been in operation for 73 years. Closed at approximately 1:20 am on July 6 1998. At 6:27 am on the same day, Chek Lap Kok Airport was completed and took over the name of "Hong Kong International Airport". When Kai Tak Airport was in operation, it was one of the busiest international airports in the world, with the third-largest passenger volume and the most significant cargo volume in the world. High-density buildings surrounded it, and the airspace was narrow. During its operation, Kai Tak Airport once had the "Top Ten Dangerous Risks in the World" In consideration of safety and demand. The Hong Kong government announced in 1989 to build a new airport at Chek Lap Kok in the northwest of Lantau Island.
I took this photo on the streets of Kowloon City one month before the reunification in 1997. Kowloon City is a bustling area in Hong Kong. People living in this community were on the streets between the buildings every day, close up, Watching the passing of large passenger planes. The sound of passing large passenger planes is a daily feature of Kowloon City.

I took this photo on the streets of Kowloon City one month before the 1997 reunification. Kowloon City was a bustling area where residents experienced daily life with large passenger planes flying incredibly close overhead. The distinctive sound of these passing aircraft was a constant and integral part of everyday life in Kowloon City.
